Educational Alternative Programs
Drop Out Prevention

Purpose: 

    •    To meet the educational needs of students in grades 9-12 identified as uninterested, experiencing academic difficulty, and/or unmotivated.
    •    To expand educational alternatives in high school.
    •    To provide a learning environment which emphasizes working together to obtain academic success, developing appropriate social skills and personal responsibility while building self-esteem.

Available Educational Alternative Programs:

SSAP Program (9th and 10th Grade Students) -    The Student Support Assistance Program is a "case management" approach for "at risk" students who attend regular classes. The Assistance Teacher provides supplemental services for students in this program via: counseling, affective education instruction, attendance monitoring, and educational planning.

MAAP Program - (11th and 12th Grade Students) - The Multi-Abilities Alternatives Program is designed for students of all stanines who lack motivation and are "at risk.".  This is an accelerated credit program that offers students the opportunity to retake year long classes that they previously failed in one semester and receive 1 full credit.

PBDP Program (12th Grade Students)  - The Performance Based Diploma Program is designed as a GED Exit Program for "at risk" students. These students can not graduate before their entry level classmates. This is a computer assisted instructional program where students take basic subjects, complete a vocational component, complete a counseling component, and pass the FCAT and the GED. Students completing this program receive a regular diploma.

Eligibility:
    •    GPA ( current or cumulative) must be below 2.0
    •    Failing two or more classes
    •    History of one or more retentions
    •    More than 10% absentee rate
    •    Inadequate self-concept, school attitude, or inappropriate social
        skills

Admission:
    •    A student may be self referred, or referred by a parent or teacher.
    •    A student who self refers needs to make an appointment with the Drop-Out Prevention counselor to discuss interest in the program in order to be placed in the program.
